Empowering over 2 lakh lives across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry through Education, WASH infrastructure, and Economic Development.
Since 1989, Rural Education and Action for Liberation (REAL) has been a catalyst for change in the most vulnerable regions of South India. We go beyond charity; we build capacity. By partnering with global corporations, government bodies, and local communities, we implement sustainable solutions that ensure every child has access to quality education, every family has safe water, and every woman has the economic power to thrive.
REAL (Rural Education and Action for Liberation) is a community-driven development organization dedicated to empowering vulnerable children, women, and marginalized communities. Since its inception, REAL has worked to break cycles of poverty through education, health, livelihood, and rights-based programs that create long-term, sustainable change.
With a people-first approach, REAL partners closely with local communities, listening to their needs and enabling them to lead their own development journey. Through collective action, capacity building, and inclusive participation, REAL continues to build stronger, healthier, and more resilient rural societies where every individual can thrive with dignity.

Three decades of measurable, sustainable impact.
Across rural and marginalized communities, children and women continue to face systemic barriers that limit access to education, health, safety, and livelihood opportunities. National surveys such as NFHS-5, ASER, and UNICEF studies highlight issues like irregular school attendance, limited learning levels, malnutrition, gender-based violence, and unemployment—issues that directly impact long-term development.
Many children in rural areas still struggle with poor foundational learning, high dropout rates, and lack of supportive learning environments. Real-life cases show children leaving school to support family income or due to early marriages for girls. Women continue to face restricted mobility, limited decision-making power, and inadequate access to healthcare and economic resources.
At the community level, persistent challenges such as unsafe housing, lack of sanitation, low health awareness, and unstable livelihoods create cycles of poverty. Families often deal with seasonal migration, unemployment, and limited access to government schemes—leaving them vulnerable during crises such as health emergencies or climate impacts.
REAL exists to address these gaps through community-led, sustainable interventions—ensuring children learn, women lead, and communities thrive with dignity and resilience.
The 5 Major Programs of REAL

We ensure access to inclusive, equitable, and high-quality education for rural children and youth. Our programs support early learning, remedial education, school readiness, career guidance, digital literacy, and improved learning outcomes through community engagement.

Supporting 375 farmers and 400 landless women to adopt organic farming, improve soil health, and boost sustainable livelihoods.
Promoting safe water, toilets, and hygiene practices in schools and communities to improve health and reduce
diseases.
Strengthening dairy-based income for rural families through training, better practices, and improved market
linkages.
In REAL organization we are providing support to different areas and projects. With the aim of letting everyone feel closer and more active with the movement going on, we prefer to let each person choose the project on the field they want to support.

Our impact would not be possible without the unwavering support of our partners and donors. Through strong collaboration, shared values, and long-term commitment, we work together to build sustainable livelihoods, resilient communities, and dignified futures for rural and marginalized families.
Each partnership strengthens our mission—whether through funding, expertise, implementation support, or community engagement. Together, we move beyond short-term aid to create lasting, community-owned solutions.
